Chau Tran, February 4
Dan Nhi and Cong Chieng are two famous traditional instruments of Vietnam.
Dan Nhi is traditionally played by the Kinh people. It is made of wood and has two strings. Its
strings were traditionally made of silk but today they are usually made of metal. Musicians use a
bow to play the dan nhi and put their fingers on the strings to change the sound.
Cong Chieng are percussion instruments. They’re made of metal and played with hands or a stick
with a large wooden head. Almost every family in Tay Nguyen has Cong Chieng at home.
