=> 3x + 5x = 25 + 15

=> 8x = 40

 b) 3x - 17 = 2x – 7     

=> 3x - 2x = -7 + 17

=> x = 10

 c) 2x – 17 =  – (3x – 18)

=> 2x - 17 = -3x + 18

=> 2x + 3x = 18 + 17

d) 3x – 14 = 2(x – 9) + 1

=> 3x - 14 = 2x - 18 + 1

=> 3x - 2x = -18 + 1 + 14
