I think I’ll become more independent by learning to cook for myself. It’s very expensive and unhealthy to eat out frequently. Besides, the food in the country where I’ll be studying may not suit me, so it’d be nice if I could prepare dishes from my own country.

Apart from the skills mentioned in the text, some other skills teenagers need to become independent include communication skills, problem-solving skills, financial management skills, goal-setting skills, and critical thinking skills. There are some needed virtues that should be gained to be an independent person. Firstly, it is finding information skill that helps you think independently and make your own decisions. It promotes problem solving approaches and make you become a self-reliant person. Coping with loneliness is the second important virtue. Lacking this skill may make you feel depressed, and you are likely to make wrong decisions about your life. Last but not least, teens should learn how to set a goal and persistently pursue it. A teen who knows how to track his progress is possible to stay motivated.                                 Skills studying abroad will give you

1. Intercultural communication and language

While you’re studying abroad, you will gain intercultural communication skills from interacting with people from different cultures.

2. Cultural awareness

Cultural awareness is a skill achieved from studying abroad when you really make an effort to understand the new country and its culture that you’re living in. Being culturally sensitive is a crucial part to being able to adapt to, or being flexible with, foreign surroundings.

3. Self-awareness

A more heightened self-awareness can be triggered while studying abroad as you begin to settle into your new home. When you find yourself in situations that are unfamiliar to you, you become more vulnerable. This vulnerability forces you to assess who you are and will maybe even make it more clear who or what you want to be.

4. Adaptability

Learning the local language, trying cultural dishes, understanding laws, customs, learning how to use money and how to use different transportation systems, are just a few things you’ll have to learn and to which you’ll have to adapt.

5. Empathy

Visiting historical sites, walking along ancient roads, and (most importantly) talking and connecting with people of different cultures all teach you empathy. When you get to interact with others and hear their stories, you will find that humans share much more in common than you thought—even if you grew up on literal opposite sides of the world.

6. Confidence

Your confidence can come from a lot of things, but it all comes down to challenging yourself and learning new things while abroad. Something as simple as learning to navigate the local transportation system, or how to order food in another language will make you more confident in yourself and your capability.

7. Problem solving and a sense of responsibility

Maybe you got lost walking to class or had a set back trying to learn the local transportation system. You will be responsible for thinking out of the box through these challenges, and oftentimes on your own. Being responsible for managing things on your own is an important skill you’ll gain (and practice) from studying abroad.

8. Independence

Living abroad in a different country with unfamiliar cultural norms can be daunting. But, you will learn how to be independent by facing and working through challenges (and life) on your own, and you’ll become more comfortable with your potential.

9. Maturity

The more you experience, learn, and grow throughout life (and accept the fact that it’s necessary), the more mature you will become. All of the skills learned from studying abroad can be used together in any combination to show you’re mature.

When returning home from studying abroad, you may feel different, changed. You may even learn more about yourself and see your own culture and home in a different light. Plus, the experiences and skills gained from study abroad can be used to your advantage in terms of your future career.

Read the following passage and mark the letter A, B, C, or D to indicate the best answer to each of the following questions.

Shyness may not seem to be a serious complaint, but for some who suffer from it, it can become unbearable. Even talking to a small group of people you know can seem like an ordeal - it can feel as if you’ve been asked to give a speech on a topic you know very little about to a number of experts. You start to feel hot and shaky, your heart beats faster, your knees feel weak, you begin to stutter and the whole experience seems to last forever.

The fact of the matter is that shyness is something we often recognize in others: blushing is one of the more visible signs, for example. Yet we do not judge someone harshly because of this. But shyness does mean you are harder to approach, so you become more isolated. As one shy person put it, “It’s like being in a prison, and it’s very hard to break out.”

Experts on the subject have come up with various possible solutions, and one has been singled out as being the key to success, namely, finding an interest in common with other people. Spending a lot of time on the sidelines watching other people and envying them because they are much more outgoing doesn’t help; remembering that some of the people you envy most are probably shy themselves. The secret is how you deal with it. And experts have come up with four things you can do today to help. Firstly, you can start by listening to other people. You will find yourself getting interested in what they’re talking about and asking questions, and before you know it, you’ll be having a conversation. Secondly, you could try asking neighbors if you can walk their dog. Like children, pets can be excellent icebreakers for conversations with passers-by. Thirdly, try joining a class to learn something like tap-dancing or flamenco, where people are likely to laugh a lot. You’ll feel relaxed, and also you’ll be much too busy concentrating on what you are doing to feel shy. Lastly, try telling yourself that it doesn’t matter if you say or do something silly. Most people make a fool of themselves every so often, and it’s not the end of the world if you do

Why do shy people become more reserved?

A. Their social unease makes them more difficult to talk to.

B. They see that others are shy too.

C. Other people lack the patience to talk to them.

D. They dread being judged by others.

D. Họ thấy những người khác cũng nhút nhát.

⚫ Yes, we can definitely learn valuable lessons from older generations. They possess a wealth of knowledge, wisdom, and life experiences that can provide valuable insights and guidance. Older generations often carry traditional practices, cultural heritage, and historical perspectives that can help shape our understanding of the world and inform our decision-making. Their experiences can teach us about resilience, perseverance, and the importance of human connection. Engaging with older generations allows us to bridge the generation gap and foster intergenerational understanding and respect.

⚫ The role of the family has evolved in today's world compared to the past. In the past, families often had more extended networks and lived in closer proximity, leading to stronger interdependence and reliance on the family unit for social and economic support. Today, families are often more nuclear or blended, and societal changes have led to increased individualism and mobility. While the importance of family remains, the roles and responsibilities within families have shifted, with individuals seeking more autonomy and independence.

⚫ It is important to strike a balance between seeking help from family and fostering independence. Family can provide a valuable support system, offering guidance, emotional support, and practical assistance when needed. However, it is also crucial to cultivate self-reliance and independence to develop essential life skills and a sense of personal agency. Depending on the situation, it is wise to assess the resources and expertise available within the family and make an informed decision on when to ask for help and when to rely on one's own abilities.

⚫ The transition from childhood to adulthood is a subjective and multifaceted process. It is not solely determined by a specific age but rather by a combination of factors such as emotional maturity, social responsibility, and self-sufficiency. Different cultures and societies may have varying perspectives on when a child becomes an adult. Generally, it involves taking on adult responsibilities, making independent decisions, and assuming accountability for one's actions. The transition to adulthood can be a gradual process influenced by education, life experiences, and personal growth. Ultimately, it is a personal journey with no fixed or universal age of adulthood.

Read the following passage and mark the letter A, B, C, or D on your answer sheet to indicate the correct answer to each of the questions 46 to 50.

In today’s fast-paced industry, learning will most likely involve seeking new skills in ways that challenge the norm. But thankfully, there is a promise for such lifelong learning online - the promise that will save your time and money while helping you earn more of both.

Provided you have access to a decent computer and the Internet, the barrier to getting started is probably lower than it ever has been. And with those things in place, it is a matter of finding the content you wish to learn. So, to help others who may be looking to maximize their own learning efforts, I have listed some quick tips below.

First, set achievable goals. When you start learning, it is a good idea to set goals about what you want to learn or what you might do with your newly acquired knowledge. It might be landing that new job, building a tangible product, or impressing your current management. The goals may vary in size and complexity, but do revisit these goals throughout your learning process. Within a couple weeks, ask yourself: “Am I getting closer to my goal?” or “Am I learning the skills necessary to reach my goals?”. If you are not, then you may need to look elsewhere.

Second, learn with others. By yourself, learning anything has a high propensity to become frustrating. Try teaming up with friends or colleagues. They can often be your best resource for maintaining motivation while you learn.

Third, make it a habit. Online habits often include scrolling through social media or watching videos on YouTube. If you have the downtime for such activities, then you could spend that downtime learning something. And why not learn something? If you do, then you will have plenty more to talk about on social media anyways. So, make learning your new online habit by making a commitment to learn something new each day

According to the passage, what are the basic conditions for learning online?

A. A smart phone and a 4-G sim card

B. A computer and the Internet

C. A goal and learning efforts

D. A content and the wish to learn
