Luật việt vị là một luật trong bóng đá liên quan đến việc hạn chế giành được lợi thế của cầu thủ một bên bằng việc đợi bóng trong trường hợp ở giữa anh ta và khung thành chỉ có thủ môn hoặc người hậu vệ cuối cùng của bên đối phương. Luật này nhằm đảm bảo chơi đẹp và liên tục. Luật việt vị là một trong những luật khá khó giải thích và khó thực thi đúng đắn của trò chơi bóng đá.
Vị trí việt vị:
* Cầu thủ đứng ở vị trí việt vị khi:
o Đứng gần đường biên ngang cuối sân đối phương hơn bóng và gần hơn 2 cầu thủ đối phương cuối cùng.
* Cầu thủ không ở vị trí việt vị khi:
o Còn ở phần sân nhà.
o Có ít nhất 2 cầu thủ đối phương gần biên ngang sân đối phương hơn (hoặc ngang hàng).
Phạm lỗi:
Cầu thủ đứng ở vị trí việt vị không coi là phạm luật việt vị và chỉ bị xử phạt nếu ở thời điểm đồng đội chuyền bóng hoặc chạm bóng, theo nhận định của trọng tài cầu thủ đó tham gia vào đường bóng đó một cách tích cực như:
1. Tham gia tình huống đó.
2. Cản trở đối phương.
3. Cố tình chiếm lợi thế trong tình huống việt vị.
4. Nếu nhận bóng trực tiếp từ quả ném biên, quả phát bóng thì không xét đến vị trí việt vị
Không phạm lỗi
Cầu thủ đứng ở vị trí việt vị không bị phạt nếu nhận bóng trực tiếp từ:
1. Quả phát bóng
2. Quả ném biên
3. Quả phạt đền
4. Quả đạp
