La Tomatina is a popular festival, held in Bunol, Spain. This festival was first held in the last Wednesday of August in 1945. The number of participants from all around the world have been increased significantly year over year, thanks to promotions held by the Spain Tourism Ministry. The highlight of the festival is the tomato fight which takes place between 9 am and 1pm on that day. A week-long festival leads up to the big tomato fight, which includes parades, fireworks and even a Paella cooking contest (a traditional food of Bunol. On the big day, at 11 AM sharp, participants struggle to climb to the top of the pole to bring down the ham to start the festival. Before taking part in the festival, participants are recommended to wear goggles to protect their eyes from the acid in the tomatoes. La Tomatina safety regulations require that tomatoes are squished before being thrown so they don't hurt when they impact. Besides, no one is allowed to carry sharp objects and to not tear others' clothes. A cannon is fired to signal the beginning and end of the tomato-throwing. Firefighters use water canons to clear and wash down the streets after the festival. The event has become one of the highlights on Spain’s summer festivals calendar with thousands of people flocking to this little Valencian town for this chaotic event. This is really a big festival for Spainish and it helps them rest after working-hard days.

Tet is a national festival in Vietnam,  many Vietnamese people love it. Tet is celebrated in the January of lunar calendar to welcome new year. Before Tet, people buy food, fruits, drink, flowers, and the most important is the peach blossom or kumquat tree. Children are bought new clothes by their parents. On New Year's Eve, all of the family members gather to give each other the best wishes and have a meal. During Tet, people can go to the parks, stadiums to see fireworks, it is very beautiful. Children can receive lucky-money from parents and relatives. I like staying at home to watch the New Year's comedies, it makes me laugh a lot. On the next day, people go to the temple to thank the ancestors, Buddha who helped everyone in the old year. In short, I really love Tet.

I was born and raised in Da Nang - the most livable city in Vietnam. It has many festivals but the most memorable one is the boat racing festival. The boat racing festival is held in January every year on the Han River, to pray for good weather, good crops, full life.

Buffalo fighting is a unique and traditional festival of people in Do Son District, Haiphong City. This festival is not only associated with Water Goddess worshiping and sacrificing custom but also expressed bravery, chivalry, and risk-taking spirit of people in the coastal city of Haiphong. The festival is annually and officially operated on the 9th day of the 8th month in Vietnamese Lunar Calendar; however, its preparation takes participants nearly a year to process. From choosing the right buffaloes to buy, raising and training them-all of which require hard work and ongoing effort. For example, selection of fighting buffaloes only must be in great meticulosity as they must meet a wide range of requirements: at least 4 or 5 years old, wide chest, bow-shape horns, toned thighs, and long tail. Also, these buffaloes are kept separately from normal ones, and so on. The festival derives from the belief of Do Son’s locals that buffalo fighting is in favor of their guardian gods and hence a continuity of this activity brings them safe voyages, abundant crops as well as healthy and wealthy people-signs of prosperity and happiness.
