Samuel Langhorne Clemens, được hầu hết mọi người biết đến với cái tên Mark Twain, sinh năm 1835 tại một thị trấn gần Hannibal, Mo. Ông đã trải qua thời niên thiếu của mình ở Hannibal, trên sông Mississippi. Khi lớn lên, anh trở thành hoa tiêu trên sông. Sau đó, ông đến và làm việc như một phóng viên tại Thành phố Virginia, Nev. Từ đó Clemens sử dụng Mark Twain làm bút danh của mình. Mark Twain qua đời năm 1910 khi ông 75 tuổi.
