Thỉnh thoảng, tôi lại bắt gặp vài cục u bướu lồi lõm, to tướng, Vỏ nó đã già khô, có những chỗ đã xanh rêu, mốc meo nhưng trong lớp vỏ ấy là dòng nhựa dồi dào sức sống…
Xuân về cho cây bàng tấm áo mới. Trên các cành cây, những chồi non nhú ra, e ấp như ngọn lửa xanh gọi đến bao nhiêu là chim chóc, ong bướm.

Cái mỏ màu ngà của nó đúng là mỏ vẹt: dài, nhọn hoắt, phần trên dài hơn phần dưới, lại khoằm xuống, uốn cong hình lưỡi câu. Cái mỏ ấ đã ngoạm vào vật gì thì phải biết, khó mà gỡ ra được. Đỡ lấy thân thon dài của nó là đôi chân đen khỏe, với những ngón chân cong dài và móng nhọn hoắt như những cái vuốt bằng thép.
Lúc ấy, con vẹt đang đậu trên một thanh gỗ tròn nhỏ được treo bằng hai sợi dây sắt. Toàn bộ long của nó, từ cổ đến đuôi, trong giống chiếc áo choàng của một bà hoàng sang trọng. Nuốt xong một miếng, nó suy nghẫm nghĩ một tí, rồi tiếp tục ăn miếng khác. Hết một phần quả chuối, xem chừng đã no, con vẹt lại nhảy lên cây gỗ, tiếp tục đi đi lại lại, đều gật gù ra vẻ khoái chí lắm.
Sau lần đầu tiên vào Thảo Cẩm Viên đó, mỗi lần đến đây chơi em đều đến thăm con vẹt quen thuộc. Mỗi khi nghe nó kêu lên “mở cửa ra” em đều giật mình. Em nghĩ: hay là nó đang nhớ rừng xanh của nó?
