Hai ví dụ trên có cùng một nghĩa nhưng cách dùng lại khác nhau.

Giống nhau: So và too đều được dùng cho câu khẳng định (positive/ affirmative statements).

Khác nhau: Chúng ta thấy "too" đứng cuối câu cùng của câu, còn "so" lại đứng đầu câu. Bên cạnh đó khi các bạn dùng "too" thì vị trí của các thành phần của câu không có gì thay đổi "S + V+ O". Trong khi đó khi dùng "so", từ này được đặt ở đầu câu, đồng thời đảo vị trí của chủ ngữ và động từ trong câu theo dạng "so + auxiliary verb + S".

Either/ neither

A: I don’t eating fish.

B: I don’t eating fish, either/I don’t , either

A: I don’t eating fish.

B: Neither do I

Nếu như "so/ too" dùng cho câu khẳng định thì "either/ neither" dùng cho câu phủ định (negative statements).

Cụm "not…..either" có từ "either" đứng cuối câu và vị trí câu không thay đổi "S + V + O".

"Neither" được đặt ở đầu câu và vị trí trong câu sẽ bị thay đổi thành "Neither + auxiliary verb+ S"

Cách dùng Too, So, Either, Neither

* Too và So có nghĩa là "cũng vậy".
Khi nhắc lại một điều giống người đã nói trước, ta có thể dùng Too, So.
- Too đặt ở cuối câu, sau một dấu phẩy.
e.g
A. I can speak English.
B. I can speak English, too.
Trong thực tế người ta thường dùng động từ đặc biệt (động từ khiếm khuyết, trợ động từ) để nói ngắn gọn thay vì phải lặp lại cả câu.
e.g
A. I can speak English.
B. I can, too.
A. I am hungry.
B. I am, too.
A: I films.
B: I do, too
- So đặt ở đầu câu, sau So là động từ đặc biệt (động từ khiếm khuyết/ trợ động từ) rồi đến chủ từ.
So + V (đặc biệt)+ Subject.
e.g.
A. I can speak English.
B. So can I.
A. I am hungry.
B. So am I.
Nếu là động từ thường, ta dùng trợ động từ Do, Does.
e.g
A. I football.
B. I do, too.
A. I drink coffee..
B. So do I.
A. I go to school by bus.
B. So does Tom/ my brother.

* Either và Neither nghĩa là “cũng không".
Khi người thứ nhất nói một điều phủ định và người thứ hai nói giống như vậy, có thể dùng hai từ này.
Either đặt ở cuối câu, sau một dấu phẩy. (có người không phẩy)
e.g
A. I’ m not sick.
B. I’ m not sick, either. (thực tế: I’ m not, either.)
A. I don’t live here.
B. I don’t (live here), either.
Neither đặt ở đầu câu, sau Neither là động từ đặc biệt (động từ khiếm khuyết, trợ động từ) rồi đến chủ từ. (chỗ này giống So)
Neither + V (đặc biệt)+ Subject.
*Lưu ý:
Sau Neither không có not, chúng ta có thể nhớ Neither = not + either, như vậy đã có neither thì không cần not nữa.
e.g.
A. I can’t swim.
B. Neither can I
A. I don’t smoke.
B. Neither do I.
Ngoài ta trong văn nói,để cho gọn thì người ta hay dùng Me too và Me neither

Cách sử dụng BOTH ... AND - NEITHER ... NOR - EITHER ... OR - NOT ONLY ... BUT ALSO
1) BOTH ... AND ( vừa..vừa... , cả .... lẫn..)
Ví dụ:
Both Mary and Tom are students ( cả Mary lẫn Tom đều là sinh viên)
I both oranges and apples. ( tôi thích cả cam và táo)

2) NOT ONLY ... BUT ALSO ( không những ... mà còn ... )
Công thức giống như both ..and
Ví dụ:
Not only Mary but also Tom s dogs ( không những Mary mà Tom đều thích chó )

3) NEITHER ... NOR ( không.... cũng không..., cả 2 đều không..)
Ví dụ:
Neither Mary nor Tom s dogs ( cả Mary lẫn Tom đều không thích chó )

4) EITHER ... OR ( hoặc là ....hoặc là ...)
Ví dụ:
Either Mary or Tom s dogs ( hoặc là Mary hoặc là Tom thích chó )
Lưu ý:
Tất cả các cấu trúc trên chỉ dùng cho 2 đối tượng.

CÁCH NỐI CÂU VỚI CÁC CẤU TRÚC TRÊN:
Nguyên tắc cơ bản:
Tất cả các vị trí dấu 3 chấm ( ... ) trong các cấu trúc trên đều phải cùng loại từ với nhau.
Ví dụ:
I both dogs and cats ( danh từ - danh từ)
I am both tall and fat ( tính từ - tính từ )
I not only drank some wine but also ate a cake. ( động từ - động từ )
Not only did I drink some wine but also I ate a cake. ( mệnh đề - mệnh đề )
Trong câu trên khi not only đứng đầu câu thì phải đảo ngữ.

Riêng trường hợp not only .... but also .... có thể có vài biến thể không tuân thủ nguyên tắc này, tuy nhiên khi học thì nên học cái chuẩn nhất và một khi đã nắm vững cách dùng rồi thì mới học thêm biến thể, nếu không sẽ dễ dẫn đến hiểu sai.

Các biến thể có thể có của not only ...but also là :
Not only clause ( đảo ngữ)...... but clause .....as well ( as well để ở cuối )
Not only clause ( đảo ngữ)...... but clause..... ( chỉ dùng but mà thôi )
Not only clause ( đảo ngữ)...... but S also V ....( chen chủ từ vào giữa )

Cách nối 2 câu:
Nhìn 2 câu từ ngoài vô, nếu gặp những yếu tố nào giống nhau thì nhập lại thành một, khi gặp các chữ khác nhau thì tách ra làm hai cho vào hai vị trí .... của công thức.
Ví dụ:
I dogs. I cats. ( both ... and...)
=> I both dogs and cats.
My father s dogs. My mother s dogs. ( both ...and ... )
=> Both my father and my mother dogs.

Riêng cấu trúc neither .. nor... phải bỏ not
Ví dụ:
I don't buy the book at that store. I don't buy the pen at this shop.
=> I buy neither the book at that store nor the pen at this shop.

Khi gặp both ...and ... thì động từ luôn chia số nhiều.
Khi gặp either ...or..., neither ....nor..... , not only... but also ..., thì động từ chia theo danh từ nào đứng gần động từ nhất
