We are looking for cheap, clean, and effective sources of energy. These types of energy won’t cause pollution or waste natural resources. It will be provided freely by the sun. One percent of the solar energy that reaches the earth will be enough to provide electricity for the whole population of the world. Solar energy will be used by many countries around the world. Solar panels will be placed on the roofs of houses and other buildings and the sun’s energy will be used to heat water. The energy will be stored for a long time. We hope that by using solar energy the problem of the energy shortage will be solved.

1. What types of energy are we looking for?

 _We are looking for cheap, clean, and effective sources of energy

2. What will we use the sun’s energy for?

 _____ The sun’s energy will be used to heat water

3. How long will the energy be stored?

 __________The energy will be stored for a long time

URBAN TRANSPORT PODS

The people living in Milton Keynes, a town about 70 kilometres northwest of London, have been introduced to a new transport experience when they use ‘pods’ to travel on certain routes.

The pods are a kind of driverless cars which travel at 19km/h and are able to transport two people and their luggage. There is a touchscreen in the windshield of the pods where passengers select their terminal. During the trip they can also read the news, check e-mails or play video games on the screen. Powered by electric motors, the pods have ultrasonic sensors and a GPS system that help themselves know where they are going and how to avoid obstacles along the way. People can use a smartphone app to hail a pod in the street.

Do you think this way of transport will appear in cities in Viet Nam soon?

1.Where is the project introduced?

2.What can passengers do with the touchscreen?

3.What enables pods to know where they are going and how to avoid obstacles?

4.Why should you need the smartphone app for pods?

IV. Put questions to the underlined parts

1.My mum used to live in a small village when she was a girl.

2.We used to play hide-and-seek when we were small.

3.They spent a huge amount of money on the film.

4.Titanic is a romantic film.

5.We went to the Flower Festival in Da Lat last year.

6.My father bought this T-shirt for me.

7.We enjoyed the film because it was entertaining.

8.It’s about two kilometres from my house to my school.

9.It takes about 10 minutes to get to the school.

10.My friends save money to fly to Spain.

2. Comparing Different Energy Sources (So sánh các nguồn năng lượng khác nhau)

Choosing the best option for energy can be difficult. Coal power is the most popular form of energy today because coal plants aren't expensive to build. However, they can produce a lot of pollution. Other non-renewable energy sources, like natural gas, are cleaner than coal, but they still aren't good for the environment.

Countries are now moving to renewable sources of energy like wind, solar, and hydroelectric power.

Wind and solar power plants are clean and cheap to run, but they aren't cheap to build. Also, wind turbines are noisy and need windy weather to work well, and solar power doesn't work at night. Hydroelectric plants also don't cause pollution, but they can be expensive to build and affect the environment by stopping fish from moving freely. For these reasons, countries and cities usually choose a mix of energy types.

Mr Lam is giving a lecture on energy sources. Read the text and choose the best option (A, B, or C) to complete the sentences.

Hello, class. Today I'd like to tell you about two energy sources. They are non-renewable sources and renewable sources.

Non-renewable sources are coal, oil and natural gas. We can use these sources to produce energy. They are cheap and easy to use. People use them a lot. But they are very limited and will run out soon.

Renewable sources come from the sun, wind or water. When energy comes from the sun, we call it solar energy. Wind energy comes from the wind, and hydro energy comes from water. Renewable sources are available, clean and safe to use. But they are expensive to produce.

In the future we will rely more on renewable energy sources. They are better for the environment and they will not run out.

1. Non – renewable sources are cheap and _________.

A. available

B. easy to use

C. expensive

2. _________come from the sun, wind or water.

A. Renewable sources

B. All energy sources

C. Non-renewable sources

3. When energy comes from water, we call it_________.

A. wind energy

B. solar energy

C. hydro energy

4. Renewable energy sources are better for_______.

A. the environment

B. our cars

C. hydro energy

1. Nguồn không tái tạo được rẻ và _________.

A. có sẵn

B. dễ sử dụng

C. đắt

2. ________nhận được từ mặt trời, gió hoặc nước.

A. Nguồn tái tạo

B. Tất cả các nguồn năng lượng

C. Các nguồn không thể tái tạo

3. Khi năng lượng đến từ nước, chúng ta gọi nó là_________.

A. năng lượng gió

B. năng lượng mặt trời

C. năng lượng thủy

A. môi trường

B. xe của chúng tôi

C. năng lượng thủy
