B. Read through the text and choose one answer for each question Thomas A. Edison was born in Milan, Ohio, on February 11, 1847. His family moved to Port Huron, Michigan, when he was seven years old. Surprisingly, he attended school for only two months. His mother, a former teacher, taught him a few things, but Thomas was mostly self-educated. His natural curiosity led him to start experimenting at a young age with electrical and mechanical things at home. When he was 12 years old, he got his first job. He became a newsboy on a train that ran between Port Huron and Detroit. He set up a laboratory in a baggage care of the train so that he could continue his experiments in his spare time. Unfortunately, his first work experience did not end well. Thomas was fired when he accidentally set fire to the floor of the baggage car. Thomas then worked for five years as a telegraph operator, but he continued to spend much of his time on the job conducting experiments. He got his first patent in 1868 for a vote recorder run by electricity. However, the vote recorder was not a success. In 1870, he sold another invention, a stock-ticker, for $40,000. A stock-ticker is a machine that automatically prints stock prices on a tape. He was then able to build his first shop in Newark, New Jersey. Thomas Edison was totally deaf in one ear and hard of hearing in the other, but thought of his deafness as a blessing in many ways. It kept conversations short, so that he could have more time for work. He called himself a "two-shift man" because he worked 16 out of every 24 hours. Sometimes he worked so intensely that his wife had to remind him to sleep and eat. Thomas Edison died at the age of 84 on October 18, 1931, at his estate in West Orange, New Jersey. He left numerous inventions that improved the quality of life all over the world. 1. When did he move to Michigan? 2 điểm For two months In 1847 At the age of seven Seven years ago. 2. What was his mother’s job? 2 điểm A housewife A teacher A farmer A driver 3. Where did he work in his first job? 2 điểm At home At a laboratory At a library On a train 4. Robert Edwards was blinded in an automobile nine years ago. He was also partially deaf because of age. Last week, he was controlling near his home when a thunderstorm approached. He took refuge under a tree and was struck by lightning. He was knocked to the ground and woke up some 20 minutes later, lying face down in water below a tree. He went into the house and lay down in bed. A short time later, he awoke; his legs were numbed and he was trembling, but, when he opened his eyes, he could see the clock across the room fading in and out in front of him. When his wife entered, he saw her for the first time in nine years. Doctor confirmed that he has regained his sight and hearing apparently from the flash of lightning, but they were unable to explain the occurrence. The only possible explanation offered by one doctor was that, since Edwards lost his sight as a result of trauma in a terrible accident, perhaps the only way it could be restored was by another trauma.

4. What was Edwards doing when he was struck by lightning?
A. hiding from the storm under a tree
B. climbing a tree
C. driving a car
D. lying on the ground
5. What was the reason given by one doctor that Edwards regained his sight?
A. He gained his sight from a head injury when he fell from a tree.
B. He was happy after his wife entered his room for the first time in nine years.
C. The lightning took the feeling from his legs and gave feeling in his eyes.
