Trong văn bản "Tôi đi học", nhà văn Thanh Tịnh đã sử dụng khá nhiều những hình ảnh so sánh giàu giá trị biểu cảm. Họ thèm vụng và ước ao thẩm được như những người học trò cũ, biết lớp, biết thầy để khỏi phải rụt rè trong cảnh lạ." Những so sánh nêu trên xuất hiện ở các thời điểm khác nhau để diễn tả những cảm xúc phong phú của nhân vật “tôi”. Các hình ảnh so sánh rất nhẹ nhàng, đẹp đẽ: mấy cánh hoa tươi, làn mây lướt, con chim non,... Nhờ các hình ảnh giàu sức gợi cảm mà cảm giác và ý nghĩ của nhân vật tôi được thể hiện cụ thể, rõ ràng hơn, đồng thời cũng gợi ra cho truyện cái chất thơ trong trẻo.
