Khi thế giới đang chiến đấu chống lại sự bùng phát COVID-19, hơn 130 quốc gia hiện đã đóng cửa các trường học trên toàn quốc, ảnh hưởng đến gần 80% học sinh trên toàn cầu. Đây là điều chưa từng có; thế giới chưa bao giờ thấy điều này nhiều trẻ em ra khỏi trường cùng một lúc. Trong một tình huống như thế này là bình thường để cảm thấy buồn, lo lắng, bối rối, sợ hãi hoặc tức giận. English Volunteer Teachers in Vietnam

There is a serious shortage of English teachers in high schools , colleges and universities . Many students have only had the chance to learn English from a local Vietnamese teacher , who is responsible for around 50 students . Volunteers from English speaking countries are needed to assit Vietnamese teachers to teach the students correct English pronunciation and conversational skills as it is considered a valuable asset . Please note that if you wish to volunteer during the school holidays in July and August you will be teaching English to 6-18 year olds as a part of the Children's Program .

In Vietnam , the English language is considered as a gateway to the students' future and a chance to escape poverty . Effective use of the English language will provide students with confidence and improve their future employment opprtunities .

Volunteers in the Teaching program are not required to be a qualified teacher or have any previous teaching experience All we ask is that you give 100% effort and enthusiasm in your work with the students .

Write " T " before the sentence if it is true . Write " F" if the sentence is not true .

        Instructors at American colleges and universities use many different teaching methods. Some instructors give assignments everyday. They grade homework. Students in their classes have to take many quizzes, a midterm exam, and a final test. Other instructors give only writing assignments. Some teachers always follow a course outline and usually use the text book. Others send students to the library for assignments.

        The atmosphere in some classrooms is very formal. Students call their instructors “Professor Smith,” “Mrs Jones,” and so on. Some teachers wear business clothes and give lectures. Other classrooms have an informal atmosphere. Students and teachers discuss their ideas. Instructors dress informally, and students call them by their first names. American teachers are not alike in their teaching styles.

        At most American colleges and universities, facilities for learning and recreation are available to students. Students can often use type-writers, tape recorders, video machines, and computers at libraries and learning centres. They can buy books, notebooks, and other things at campus stores. They can get advice on their problems from counselors and individual help with their classes from tutors. Students can relax and have fun on campus, too. Some schools have swimming pools and tennis courts. Most have snack bars and cafeterias.

Giáo viên của thế kỷ 21 cần phải là người hướng dẫn hoặc cố vấn cho học sinh của mình, chứ không phải là những người hiền triết có thể cung cấp cho họ tất cả những gì họ cần. Ngày nay, với quá nhiều nguồn tài nguyên các loại, trẻ em luôn biết nhiều hơn giáo viên về các chủ đề khác nhau, đi trước công nghệ. Giáo viên cần được trao quyền làm người hướng dẫn cho việc học, để họ có thể lân lượt trao quyền cho học sinh của họ.

Sự thay đổi này là một tin tuyệt vời đối với giáo viên. Thay vì cố gắng cung cấp cho trẻ tất cả thông tin trong những lĩnh vực mà các em biết rất ít, giáo viên có thể hỗ trợ học sinh khi các em tự mình bước vào các lĩnh vực khác nhau. Đó là chuẩn bị cho họ vượt xa hơn thế hệ trước, đảm bảo họ có những kỹ năng để làm điều đó, và hỗ trợ họ trên đường đi.

Do đó, giáo viên cần phải có tư tưởng tiến bộ, ham hiểu biết và linh hoạt. Họ phải là người học: học các phương pháp giảng dạy mới, và học cùng với học sinh của họ. Đơn giản chỉ cần đặt câu hỏi như "Học sinh của tôi sẽ cần sau hàng chục năm từ bây giờ?" Hoặc "Làm cách nào tôi có thể cho chúng những kỹ năng đó?" có thể thay đổi tư duy của giáo viên, làm cho họ trở thành lãnh đạo và mang lại những thay đổi trong lớp học, trường học và cộng đồng.
