Study: False News Spreads Faster and Farther than Truth

A study has found that false news stories posted on Twitter travel much faster and reach far more people than true ones. The new research also showed that people – not automated robots sometimes called “bots” – were mostly responsible for spreading false news.

The study was done by researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s (MIT) Media Lab. Results were reported in the publication Science. It was one of the biggest efforts yet to study the effects of social media on the spread of real and false news. Twitter cooperated with the study. The company gave the MIT Media Lab access to its data and provided money for the project.

The team researched stories posted on Twitter since the service began in 2006. It identified and examined more than 126,000 stories tweeted by about 3 million people through the end of 2016. The stories chosen had been investigated by various independent fact-checking organizations to decide whether they were true, false, or a mix of both. Nearly two-thirds of stories were found to be false, while about one-fifth were true. The rest were mixed.

Một nghiên cứu đã phát hiện ra rằng các tin tức giả mạo được đăng trên Twitter nhanh hơn và tiếp cận được nhiều người hơn tin tức đúng. Nghiên cứu mới này cũng cho thấy rằng con người - không tự động hóa các robot đôi khi được gọi là "các tài khoản tự động-(bots)” – hầu hết đều chịu trách nhiệm phát tán tin tức giả.

HOBBIES IN THE PAST

Like fashion, hobbies change with the times. In our days, a lot of hobbies use technology: we take digital photos and post them online and children play computer games. But what did people use to do before this technology? Let's take a took at some hobbies that were popular more than 100 years ago.

Many of the sports that we play today were popular in the past, too. Football became popular and had rules for the first time in the 19^th century. Many football clubs were started by employers, so that workers could play and stay fit. Football was a men sports but both men and woman played other sports, like tennis and croquet. Unfortunately, the long skirts worn at that time didn’t help women with their games at all.

Many girls and women spent their spare times doing sewing and embroidery. They used a needle and thread to make tiny stitches on a piece of fabric. They made clothes and accessories such as scarves and gloves. They created beautiful pictures of flowers, birds and other patterns. They also used to embroider cushions, tablecloths and rugs.

Girl in the 19^th century used to play with dolls and doll’s houses. At that time, toys were handmade. The doll’s heads were often made of china and the bodies were made wood. Rocking horses were also very popular. They were made of wood and their tails were made of real horsehair. Boys used to play with toys trains and railways.

Finally, people in the 19^th century love nature, so one popular hobby was collecting and drawing butterfiles. People used to catch butterflies in nets and fix them on special boards with pins. They used to draw pictures that showed all the details and colours of the beautiful insects.

Past or present, hobbies are a great way to pass the time. They help us show our creativity and used our imagination.

But the left over money after the mother bought necessities wasn't enough to buy a drum. The boy wanted a drum so badly, but there was nothing she could do. However, on the way back home, his mother found a fine stick. It was still better than nothing, right? She was smiling badly while she was handing the gift to her son. The boy decided to not disappointed. Instead of that, he thanks his mother, tapped, slapped, banged on every object with his new stick.

Then he saw his neighbor trying to light her smoked stove. Her eyes watered and she coughed so much. The boy, without hesitation, gave the stick to his neighbor. "Here Auntie, use my stick to heat your stove"- he said. When the stove was OK and hot perfectly, she baked him a soft, round roti, a traditional Indian cake.

The boy was looking for a shade place to ẹnjoy the roti when he heard a baby crying. The baby was hungry but her mother had no food. The boy immediately told the mother to feed her baby his roti. The baby ate the warm, delicious cake. The woman insisted the boy to take a large, metal jug as her gratefulness. What a gift! It dinged like a real drum!

He almost didn't saw someone was groaning from a roadside ditch. An old man wearing torn clothes was laying in the dust. The boy ran as quickly as he could to fill the jug with water. The man drink water from the jug and told his story: "I am a trader, but robbers stole my goods." He just had 2 horses, and they were standing by a tree. The boy also gave water to them. He offered that the trader could took his jug to trade. The old man was thankful so he urge the boy to take one of his horse. "It was a rich gift!" the boy thought.

The boy climbed on the horse and rode happily down the streets. He crossed a group of man sitting under a tree. They were beautifully dressed, unfortunately they looked miserable. The boy asked if there is a problem. One young man said: "I'm going to my wedding, where this band will perform. But if I show up on foot, my bride will laugh at me" The boy hopped off the horse and handed the reins to the groom. He thought that he had a whole life without a horse. The young man needed it more than he did! The musicians leaped up and sang. A singer stopped to thank the boy for his kindness. In exchange, he deserved a beautiful drum.

The boy shouted with joy. He tapped the drum the whole way home. His mother came out to see what the noise was. The boy told her about the story of the stick, a roti, a jug, a horse and a drum.

Để đảm bảo an toàn phòng chống dịch, UBND TP Hà Nội giao Sở Y tế chỉ đạo Trung tâm Y tế quận Hoàn Kiếm tổ chức xét nghiệm vi rút SARS-CoV-2 cho các đại biểu, giáo viên và học sinh. khai giảng một ngày (tức 4/9).

Chương trình lễ khai giảng bao gồm đầy đủ các nghi thức theo quy định, các bài phát biểu chào mừng, động viên thầy và trò của lãnh đạo Bộ Giáo dục và Đào tạo, thành phố Hà Nội và bài phát biểu của đại diện học sinh tham dự lễ khai giảng ... Lễ khai giảng được tổ chức trang trọng, ngắn gọn, phù hợp với lứa tuổi học sinh; đảm bảo an toàn, tránh phô trương, hình thức. Hà Nội cũng yêu cầu các trường học, giáo viên và học sinh trên toàn thành phố xem truyền hình trực tiếp lễ khai giảng.

Sau khi kết thúc lễ khai giảng truyền hình trực tiếp chung, từ 8 giờ 30 phút đến 9 giờ 30 phút, các trường tổ chức các hoạt động đầu năm học bằng hình thức trực tuyến trên hệ thống dạy học trực tuyến hiện có.

Trường THCS Trưng Vương là cơ sở giáo dục duy nhất được thành phố Hà Nội chọn tổ chức khai giảng năm học mới trong bối cảnh dịch bệnh bùng phát. Đây cũng là một trong những ngôi trường lâu đời nhất ở Hà Nội.

Theo kế hoạch của Sở GD & ĐT Hà Nội, ngày 6/9, các trường công lập trên địa bàn Hà Nội sẽ chính thức học trực tuyến.

Đối với học sinh lớp 1, từ ngày 1-9 đến 12-9, giáo viên chủ nhiệm tổ chức cho học sinh làm quen với hình thức học trực tuyến. Từ ngày 13-9 đến 30-9, nếu học sinh không thể đến lớp do dịch COVID-19, các trường bắt đầu dạy học trực tuyến theo chương trình, thời lượng tối đa 3 giờ / ngày.
