a.     (1 + 2x)2 + 2(1 + 2x)(x - 1) + (x - 1)

= [(1+2x)+(x-1)]^2 

= (1+2x+x-1)^2 

= (3x)^2 

= 9x^2

b.     (x - 3)(x + 3) - (x - 3)2

= x^2-3^2 - x - 6x - 3^2 

= x^2 - 9 - x - 6x - 9 

= x^2 - 7x - 18 

c.      (x - 1)2(x + 2) - (x - 2)(x2 + 2x + 4)

= (x-1)^2(x+2) - (x^3-2^3) 

= x-2x+1(x+2) - x^3 - 2^3
