a) -5(3x - 1) + 4(x - 2) = x + 7

-15x + 5 + 4x - 8 = x + 7

-11x - 3 = x + 7

-3 = x + 7 + 11x

-3 = 12x + 7

-3 - 7 = 12x

-10 = 12x

x = -10/12 = -5/6

=> x = -5/6
