You´re already well equipped to prevent crime

Everyone comes with their own built-in burglar alarm. It´s called the sense of sight and sound.

Unfortunately, many of us go around with the alarm switched off.

We don´t see the stranger loitering outside the house next door. We overlook the kids trying the car doors. We don´t notice the sounds from the flat upstairs. (Weren´t they supposed to be on holiday?)

The police can only do so much to prevent crime.

There never can be enough of them to guard every home in every town. So they need your help in combating the burglars, the vandals, the car thieves.

Not, of course, by setting out to "have a go" every time you see something suspicious. It´ll always be the job of the police to arrest criminals. But you can help by acting as a line of communication between them and your community.

For instance, you probably know far more about your immediate neighbourhood than the police ever could. A stranger in someone´s garden would probably be far more obvious to you than it would be to the local bobby. Providing, of course, you were on the look-out.

And that´s the whole idea behind the Neighbourhood Watch schemes now springing up around the country. To create a spirit of watchfulness within a community, anything suspicious being reported to the police.

It´s early days yet, but results so far are very encouraging. The crime figures are already dropping in many of the areas running a scheme.

And all due to people like you.

Don´t let them get away with it.

You should call the police when you believe a crime is about to be committed or has been comitted. Cops would much rather hear from people BEFORE the crime than after the crime. You should call the police when you believe a crime is about to be committed or has been comitted. Cops would much rather hear from people BEFORE the crime than after the crime. For example, if you see a person you don't recognize as a neighbor, in your neighborhood looking into parked cars, call the cops. We would rather try to catch him and identify him before he steals the car, rather than have to chase him (endangering lives) after he steals it.

You should also call the cops about disturbing choices people make that can effect your quality of life. If someone puts their stereo on so loud it bothers you, you should go ask him to turn it down, and if he doesn't then call the cops. If there is a loud party next door and they keep waking you up, call the cops to make them turn down the noise or break up the party. Call in if you have drug dealing or prostitution in your neighborhood. You should not have to put up with that crap.

There are many ways to get your local cops to help you, that is what they are there for, you dont necessarily have to call. If it is an ongoing problem a letter or email to the chief will usually get the ball going. Or you can wave down an officer and tell them what the problem is, they are public servants that work for the citizens. A lot of serious crimes have been solved because a citizen passed along information to an officer.

Exercise 1: I went to the concert last night with my friends

Dear Oanh,

Thank you very much for your letter which arrived a few days ago. It was lovely to hear from you. I am sorry, I haven’t written for you such along time because I studied hard to pass the final exam. However, I had agreat weekend more than every when I went to live concerts last night with my friends. Now, I am writing to tell you how the wonderful concert is.

It is the beautiful concert I have ever taken part in with many people and the miracle of sound of piano. As you know, my pianist is Yiruma and in last concert I couldn’t believe that he appeared in my eyes and gave me a big hug after his performance. I also listen a soothing music which is played by him and other professional musicians. Only when I heard his song from the stage I feel anythings around me seem to disappear and I can fly with many stars on the sky to forget all my fears which I suffered before.

That is amazing.

Let’s come back to my live concert. It is so cool and until now I can’t forget my feeling about it. Do you often to go live concerts? What kind of music do you like listening to? Who is your favourite singer?

I am glad if you tell me about it in the next letter

I look forward to your reply

Your sincerely

For example, fish cooked with sauce, spring roll,…and vegetable and so on. The food is deliciuous so we enjoy it very much. The service is also quick and frienfdly . My family always have pleasant evening at our favourite restaurant.
