Isn’t it amazing how much time we spend talking about food?, “Have you ever eaten......?”, “What did you have for lunch?” and so on. And yet when you travel from one country to another, you find that people have quite different feelings about food. People often feel that what they eat is normal, and that what other people eat is strange or silly.

In most part of Asia, for example, no meal is complete without rice. In England, people eat potatoes every day. In the Middle East, bread is the main part of every meal. Eating, like so many things we do, becomes a habit which is difficult to change. Americans like to drink a lot of orange juice and coffee. The English drink tea four or five times every day. Australians drink a large amount of beer, and the French drink wine every day.

The sort of meat people like to eat also differs from one country to another. Horse meat is thought to be delicious in France. In Hong Kong, some people enjoy eating snakes. Newzelanders eat sheep meat, but they never eat goat meat. The Japanese don’t like eat sheep meat because of its smell, but they enjoy raw fish.

So it seems that although eating is a topic that we can talk about for hours, there is little common sense in what we say about it. People everywhere enjoy eating what they have always been eating, and there is very little we can do to change our eating habits.

A. people’s attitude to food B. the importance of meat

C. strange dishes in the world D. food and life

VIETNAMESE SNACKS

Vietnamese peasants used to have a lot of free time after the busy crop time passed, and preparing some nosh to eat is a certain result of the circumstance. Sweet potato is a prime example of the case. It is considered the most popular nosh in the countryside. Ever experience Vietnam home-staying? You must realize boiled sweet potato, cassava and peanuts are the most typically Vietnamese snacks - of course without salt or sugar added.

And if you dare venture beyond the standard ones, there are surely bizarre things to try. The best place to taste purely Vietnamese snacks is to have them right in a family or on the sidewalks along every street. Tasting a fertilized egg at 4 pm on a breezy afternoon may scare you, yet it is one of the most popular snacks out here and is considered extremely nutritious.

Besides varieties of wonderful noodle, made-of-rice cakes, bean sweet soups you may be too shy to eat a bowl of pig raw blood soups. Does it originate from Totem belief? Not many Vietnamese questions that when eating the dish. All they want to do is to choose the right restaurant and wait to be served the raw blood soups with Vietnamese spirit.

1. When do Vietnamese farmers used to have lots of free time?

2. What is considered the most popular nosh in the countryside?

3. What are the most typically Vietnamese snacks?

4. Are blood soups can be served in restaurants?

I'm going to talk about Vietnamese eating habits. Vietnamese people use rice as one of the staple foods. The most common cooking styles are boiling, stir-frying, steaming or stewing... Vietnamese food tends to not very fatty as they use minimal oil for their dishes. The most common meal is a combination of meats, fish and vegetables, herbs. Most of the meals are served with extra fish sauce or soya sauce. The food often all is placed at the center of the table. The younger people must invite older people before eating.

Thanksgiving: An American Tradition

The American holiday of Thanksgiving is celebrated every year on the fourth Thursday in November. The holiday is during autumn -- the main season for harvesting crops. Thanksgiving is an autumn harvest festival like those found in many cultures around the world. On this day, most Americans gather with friends and family. Many take time to think about what they are thankful for, cook up a storm, and eat. A lot.

The star of most Thanksgiving dinners is a roasted turkey. Turkeys are large birds native to North America. The turkey is cooked in an oven for many hours, often with a mix of celery, bread, onions and spices inside the bird. This mix becomes stuffing -- another star of the Thanksgiving dinner table. After the bird is cooked, the stuffing is taken out and served as a side dish. One of many side dishes. Families often make other foods like mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce and vegetable casseroles.
