*Tham Khảo :

Where I live is a small village on the outskirts of Hanoi. Because of my busy life, I rarely go back to my hometown. Every time I return to my hometown, I first realize the obvious change of my hometown. The village road was now widened and covered with a glossy black plastic. The small houses were replaced by high-rise buildings. Seeing my hometown develop day by day, I feel very happy and proud. Everyone is conscious of keeping the environment clean. Garbage is no longer thrown around and has a very clean and tidy treatment team. The elementary school where I used to attend has also been expanded. Perhaps because there are many people living in my village now, everything needs to be bigger. Sewing and carpentry workshops also began to appear. Thanks to these factories, the overall economy of my village has increased significantly. Every change in my hometown is remembered by me. Every time I return to my hometown, I can’t help but feel proud of this positive development.

During recent years, Hanoi has witnessed many substantial transformations. The historical city center is seeing a massive densification of its urban fabric, as well as growth in terms of height. In the case of the Old Quarter, for example, these trends have been accommodated by widespread demolition of traditional tube houses. Many older structures, when not demolished, have been modified.

Due to poor maintenance, beautiful old brick tile roofs were widely replaced with simple corrugated metal sheets to prevent leaks. Wooden shutters, also a typical feature of old Hanoi, were almost completely substituted with metal bars and glass windows. Later modifications were also made to allow for the installation of air conditioners, which have become a visually inharmonious feature to the historical facades.Without question, the Old Quarter should not be transformed into a stagnant museum piece, but the last remaining pearls of old residential houses should be preserved by providing homeowners with advise and economic support to renovate their houses in an authentic way.

My hometown has changed a lot. Firstly, the local people have different appearance with fashionable clothes. Secondly, many of them now have cell phones and motorbikes or even cars. They are living in modem brick houses. Besides, the Internet is very popular among the residents and they use it for learning, making new friends and playing games. They really feel pleased about the changes.

My home village is now different from the village in my father’s story. In his story, my village is very poor. Everyone  live  a  hard  life that  time.  People  lack  of  food,  of  money.  Now,  it  is different. People don’t live a hard life anymore. They have enough food, enough money, everyone  got  a  house,  and  many  more  things.  The  only  things  that doesn’t  change  is sentiment. Everyone always be very happy. They live together, help each other when they need, that isa luxury. That makes my village a wonderful place for everyone. People are just farmer, but they solidarity in the face of penury. And when they have money in their hands, they still solidarity they are friendly with others, they are helpful, they are good people. That’s about people.Landscape is still the old days. That river, that mountain. Nature is harmony with people. People live with nature, people product things of nature, and nature always open-handed with people, give them resource for themto build their house. That is what people seek, and they live with it very well. That’s  all  I  can  say  about  my  home  village,  in  my  opinion,  my  village  is  a wonderful place. War does not determine who is right, only who is left:” Ask not what your country can do for you but what you can do for your country”.

Lake blue, like a cosmic giant carpet. Coastal lakes are found standing tilt touches down in their reflected nothing more of a young woman doing coast. I am very proud of themselves as citizens Hanoi. The people of Hanoi elegance and hospitality.

I think life in the countryside has many advantages. Firstly, people are very friendly. Secondly , the space is very large. We can play, shout or run around without disturbing others. Thirdly, we can go swimming, go fishing interesting things. Moreover, life is peaceful. Then food is very fresh and especially vegetables. Finally , there are a lot of tradition activities that I can join. In short, if I have a chance to live in the country. I think I will be very happy.

Xôi xéo:

Chances are you will encounter this dish in almost every outdoors market. There are even two restaurantsdedicated fully to this dish in the Old Quarters. Xoi xeo is sticky rice topped with ground de-hulled mung bean and fried onion. Sometimes it can be served with eggs or steamed chicken breast on request. The serving is really filling and it is good for any time of the day but most Vietnamese have it for breakfast or lunch.

Xoi Yen is a all time local favourite sitting just North of Sword Lake (Hoan Kiem lake) on Nguyen Huu Huan street. Ask anyone in the area and they all know what you are referring to. The price varies, without chicken, a bowl of Xoi xeo costs you about 50 cents. Have it with a glass of soy milk and you have more energy boost than a box of granola bars!

"Vietnam is the land of heat and noodles". That is what an American friend wrote to me in an email when he said he missed Vietnam. While in English, there may be only some words "noodles", "vermicelli" or "noodle soup", in Vietnamese, we have various names "Phở, Bún, Miến, Bánh đa, Bánh canh, Mỳ" to describe our noodles. The Vietnamese noodles have different colors (white, red, yellow), shape and thickness, depending on the types and regions. Each of the said noodles has one more word next to it, like beef, chicken or other material, or name of a location to emphasize their specialty. For example, Phở gà (noodle soup with chicken), Phở bò (noodle soup with beef), Bún bò Huế (Huế city's beef noodle soup), Mỳ Quảng (Quảng Nam province's noodles) etc.
