Task 7: Read and choose the best answer for each question.Tel Aviv is a bustling city with a major traffic problem. That’s why the government has set the goal of building aerial public transport system, named SkyTran, in the near future. SkyTran will run on metal tracks, which are six meters above the ground. Passengers will be able to use a smartphone application to call a car to the nearest station. Each car can run independently and will take riders as close to their destination as tracks allow. According to SkyTran’s designer, a SkyTran ride will cost a little more than a bus, but less than a comparable distance in a taxi. Moreover, the SkyTran system will be energy neutral by using solar panels. SkyTran will be capable of speeds of up to 241 kilometers per hour, but it will run slower at first to get riders familiar with the ride.1. What is the text mainly about?A. Thinking about how we will be travelling in 10 or 20 years is very interesting. Will we still be using planes or will we be flying our cars from Paris to London? Here are some suggestions.
- SkyTrain: Currently being developed at NASA, SkyTrain looks like the monorail at Disney World. Moving at 240km/h and using small amount of energy, it could be the future of city transportation. SkyTrain has the passenger capacity of a 6-lane highway.
- Flying cars: Zhu Wenxi and Lai Zexin, Chinese students, have designed a solar-powered flying car that doesn’t need a runway to take off. If you have about 200 hundred thousand dollars, you will own this vehicle soon.
- An electric mininus: The minibus Cameo, designed by Martin Pes, can carry 32 passengers but it is small enough to get its way out of a traffic jam. Its electric motor and low weight mean that it can be recharged in seconds while stopping and it has zero emission.
- An eco-taxi: Taxis are bad for the environment and traffic jams. We enter eco-taxi, and individual taxis form a train powered by solar panels.
1. Decide whether the statements below are True (T) or False (F) : (2,5 marks)
a. SkyTrain is fast but cannot be used as a means of transport in the city. …………
b. Flying cars designed by Zhu Wenxi and Lai Zexin run on solar energy. …………
c. A long runway is necessary for flying cars to take off. …………
d. Because it is small, an electric minibus can avoid traffic jams. …………
e. Several eco-taxis can form a line moving together, using solar energy. …………

Will people still read books 100 years from now? A few years ago, many people would have said no. It seemed likely that computers and the Internet would replace books. Now, however, most experts think that books are here to stay.

There are a number of reasons why computers will not replace books entirely. One reason is that books on paper are much cheaper than computers. And books do not need a power source. You can read a book for as long as you want and wherever you want. You never have to worry about losing power. Also, many people feel more comfortable reading woeds in a book than reading woeds on a computer screen because it is less tiring to the eyes.

Will books in the future be exactly the same as the books you can buy today? The answer to that question is no. In the future, you may only need to buy one book. With this one book, you will be able to read novels, plays, and newspapers. It will look like today's books, but it will be electronic.

One of the people working on the book of the future is Professor joseph Jacobson from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Professor Jacobson's electronic book will have a small button on the side. When you oress the button, woeds will instantlu appear on the page. When you want to read a different story, you can push the button again and a new story will quickly appear.

2. Which of the following is true according to the passage ?

3. What will the book of the future look like?

4.The button on the side of the electronic book is used....

Another thing Singapore has done is to make it more difficult to buy cars. People have to apply for a certificate if they want to buy a car. And the number of certificates is limited. Not everyone can get one. There is also a high tax on cars, so it costs three or four times as much to buy a car in Singapore as it does in, say, the United States or Canada. The other thing Singapore has done is to build an excellent public transportation system. Their subway system is one of the best in the world. And there is also a very good taxi and bus system.
