E.Read the following passage and choose the correct answer for each question below.

Scientists believe that the smart home may be the home of the future. These homes may be of different shapes and sizes. They may also float on the water.

Scientists have designed the eco houseboat – a kind of house floating on the sea. But the houseboat is stable and doesn’t rock heavily when there are big waves. It makes use of wave and solar energy to move it around and provide power. It also has solar panels on the top of the house to generate electricity. And it can recycle all kinds of household waste.

A robot controls everything in the house and does the housework. In the kitchen, smart refrigerators and dish washes can automatically work by themselves. A smart oven can cook your favourite dishes. All these things and other advances will make our life much better.

The eco houseboat will be …………….

A.in the air                  B. on the sea   C. in the ocean                        D. on big waves

      2. The word “stable” in the second paragraph is closest in meaning to …………….

            A. comfortable           B. not moving C. not sinking             D. peaceful

      3. What is special about the kitchen in the houseboat?

            A. A robot                   B. Special dishes        C.Smart equipment    D. Dish washers

      4. Which of the following is NOT true?

            A. Scientists have built the eco houseboat.   B. The eco houseboat can make power.

            C. The houseboat can recycle waste.             D. Our life will be better.

      5. What is the main idea of the passage?

            A. Life in the future                                       B. Generating electricity in the future.

            C. Shapes and sizes of houses.                       D. A special kind of house.

Dear guests, I’d like to talk to you today about renewable and non-renewable energy. Fossil fuels are non-renewable energy sources. They include oil, coal, and natural gas. They can be used to create energy, generate electricity, or drive big machinery. Unfortunately, they are harmful to the environment. Viet Nam still relies mostly on non-renewable energy sources, however, hydro power is increasingly used here too.

Hydro and nuclear power can generate a great deal of energy. They are renewable and plentiful. However, hydro power is limited because dams cannot be built in certain areas. Nuclear power can provide enough electricity for the world’s needs, but it is dangerous. The sun and the wind are other alternative sources of energy. The wind turns turbines to

make electricity. Solar power can be converted into electricity. It can be used to heat or cool our houses. Although there are some disadvantages, these alternative energy sources can offer abundant amounts of clean, safe electricity. They will be valued more and more in the future in Viet Nam.

1.How many types of energy sources are mentioned in the text? What are they?

2.What are the disadvantages of hydro and nuclear power?

3.Why do you think the wind and the sun are called alternative sources of energy?

4.What types of energy does Viet Nam use most?

5.What does the professor think Viet Nam will use more in the future?

1.How many types of energy sources are mentioned in the text? What are they?

Two. They are renewable and non-renewable.

2.What are the disadvantages of hydro and nuclear power?

Hydro power is limited because dams cannot be built in certain areas. Nuclear power is dangerous.

3.Why do you think the wind and the sun are called alternative sources of energy?

Because they are natural sources of power and we use them instead of non-renewable sources to get the electricity we need.

4.What types of energy does Viet Nam use most?

We use non-renewable sources of energy the most but we are increasingly using hydro power.

5.What does the professor think Viet Nam will use more in the future?

He thinks Viet Nam will use the wind and the sun as alternative sources of energy in the future

- SkyTrain: Currently being developed at NASA, SkyTrain looks like the monorail at Disney World. Moving at 240km/h and using small amount of energy, it could be the future of city transportation. SkyTrain has the passenger capacity of a 6-lane highway.
- Flying cars: Zhu Wenxi and Lai Zexin, Chinese students, have designed a solar-powered flying car that doesn’t need a runway to take off. If you have about 200 hundred thousand dollars, you will own this vehicle soon.
- An electric mininus: The minibus Cameo, designed by Martin Pes, can carry 32 passengers but it is small enough to get its way out of a traffic jam. Its electric motor and low weight mean that it can be recharged in seconds while stopping and it has zero emission.
- An eco-taxi: Taxis are bad for the environment and traffic jams. We enter eco-taxi, and individual taxis form a train powered by solar panels.
1. Decide whether the statements below are True (T) or False (F) : (2,5 marks)
a. SkyTrain is fast but cannot be used as a means of transport in the city. …………
b. Flying cars designed by Zhu Wenxi and Lai Zexin run on solar energy. …………
c. A long runway is necessary for flying cars to take off. …………
d. Because it is small, an electric minibus can avoid traffic jams. …………
e. Several eco-taxis can form a line moving together, using solar energy. …………

Traffic jams have appeared in many places of our country. So in the future, many interesting means of transport is a smart cycle. In my opinion, it will be powered by solar energy and wind energy to avoid pollution and save fuel. Two people can sit on it. We can it anywhen and anywhere. It's won't take a lot of space. With the use od modern technology, this smart cycle will be able to help us many things and it will make our life become better. It's will be able to avoid traffic jam, pollution and it help us travel to the sky more clearly. In the future, i hope this mean of transport will be come true.

SOLAR ENERGY

Sunlight carries huge amounts of energy. You can feel the Sun’s energy when sunlight warms your skin on a summer day. To capture the Sun’s energy, scientists have developed solar cells, called photovoltaic cells. These cells convert sunlight into electricity. When sunlight hits a solar cell, some of the light energy is absorbed. This light energy causes the particles in the solar cell to move faster, and the movement of these particles creates electricity.

In some places, large panels of solar cells harvest sunshine to make electricity for homes and businesses. Solar cells have been placed on cars and appliances, too. Since the Sun sends abundant free energy streaming toward Earth 24 hours a day, people in many parts of the world, not just the sunniest places, have fixed solar cells and solar panels on the roofs of their houses or businesses to lower their energy costs. Experts say that the huge installation of solar panels in sunny regions could generate enough electricity to supply an entire country. Capturing this energy can help overcome our diminishing energy supply. New ways to capture this energy are being developed an the time to maximize efficiency.
