Renewable energies (or renewables) are ways to generate energy from (theoreally) unlimited natural resources. These resources are either available with no time limit or replenish more quickly than the rate at which they are consumed.

Renewable energies are generally spoken of as opposed to fossil fuel energies. The fossil fuels’ stocks are limited and non-renewable in the human timescale. The most known examples of these resources are coal, oil or natural gas. On the contrary, renewable energies are produced from renewable sources. Here, we’re talking about energy coming from solar rays, wind or water cycles – all theoreally unlimited on a human scale time.

Renewable energies are also often referred to as “green energies” or “clean energies”. Still, this doesn’t mean that these energies aren’t harmful to the environment and have zero impact. Nonetheless, they have a low environmental impact compared to fossil fuels. That’s why they’re increasingly becoming important elements in companies’ CSR strategies in terms of sustainable development.

There are several types of renewable energies that are produced by different sources such as the sun, wind or water. In fact, these renewables’ power consumption has been growing over the last year. They have provided 8% of the world’s electricity in 2017 and they now cover 1/3 of the power mix in Europe. At the same time, the energy grid gets 1/4 of the total energy in China and 1/6 in the United States, India, and Japan. Let’s learn more about them below.

  • Is Solar Energy Really Green And Sustainable?

1 – Solar Energy

solar energy power plant renewable
This type of renewable energy comes directly from the capture of solar radiation. Here, the solar radiation is absorbed by specific sensors and rebroadcasted following 2 possible operation modes:

  • Capturing sun rays and directly converting them into energy through photovoltaic solar panels;
  • Capturing, collecting and turning the sunlight into heat that warms up water or air.

Examples of Solar Energy in the World

It’s estimated that in 2017 1,6% of the worldwide generated energy came from solar sources. At the same time, solar power also contributed to 20% of the total energy growth in this same year. Some of the most known sources of solar energy are:

  • The Kurnool Ultra Solar Park in India. It has a total generation capacity of 1000MW and over 4 million solar panels installed;
  • The Longyangxia Solar Park in China that has a total capacity of 850MW and covers around 25sq km.
  • The Kamuthi Solar Facility in India: it has a total capacity of 648MV and covers 10sq km.

Is Solar Energy Renewable or Nonrenewable?

Solar energy is inexhaustible in the sense that it will cease once the solar system’s star – the sun – dies. However, many people wonder if, from a perspective of human’s being able to capture and use solar energy in the long-term, whether solar energy is renewable or nonrenewable.

2 – Windpower, a Renewable Energy

Wind power is another renewable energy. Here, the wind’s kine energy makes turbines spin and creates a mechanical movement. Afterward, a generator transforms this mechanical energy into electricity. There are several types of wind renewable energies: onshore wind turbines, off-shore wind turbines and even floating wind turbines. But the operating principles are basically the same for all these types of wind-generated energy.

Examples of Wind Power in the World

Wind power continues has also been growing, In fact, it provided 4.4% of global power generation in 2017. The highest installed wind capacity belongs to China (164GW). At the same time, in the EU, wind power provides 15% or more of the energy generated in several countries such as Germany, Portugal or Lithuania. Some of the most known sources of wind power energy are:

  • The Gansu Wind Farm in China. It is still under construction and it will be able to produce 20,000MV of power by 2020;
  • The onshore Muppandal Wind Farm in India with a capacity of 1,500MW and over 3000 turbines;
  • The Alta Wind Energy Center in the U.S. with a total capacity of 1,548MW that’s expected to reach 3,000MW by 2040;
  • The Walney Extension in the UK. It has a total capacity of 659MW and it’s the world’s largest offshore farm.

3 – Hydro-Electric Power

Hydro-electric power consists in the transformation of the kine energy of the water (from rivers, dams, marine currents or tides)  into mechanical energy by turbines.

Examples of hydro-electric power in the world

  • The Sihwa Lake Tidal Power Station in South Korea. This is the world’s biggest tidal power installation and it has a capacity of 254 MW;
  • The Rance Tidal Power Station in Brittany, France, has a 240 MW capacity;
  • The Three Gorges Dam in China is the world’s largest power station in terms of installed capacity (22,500 MW).

4- Biomass

biomass renewable energy definition
Biomass is made up of organic materials from plants or animals that contain stored energy. The combustion of these natural materials produces renewable energy. Some examples of generating energy from biomass are:

  • Directly burning solid biomass garbage or wood to produce heat;
  • Converting biomass into biogases such as methane or CO2 due to the bacterial activity that happens in the absence of oxygen (as is the case in landfills);
  • Using sugar or corn crops to create biofuels such as bioethanol or biodiesel and mixing them with fossil fuels afterward. As a matter of fact, the world’s biofuels production increased by 3.5% in 2017.

    • Palm oil has a huge environmental impact. What’s the impact of its use as a biofuel?
    • What Is Biogas Energy Production?

Examples of Biomass Energy in the World

Some of the most known biomass power plants in the world are:

  • The Iron Bridge power station in the UK, with a capacity of 740MW. It uses wood pellets as the main fuel;
  • The Alholmenskaft power station in Finland. It has a 260MW energy generation capacity;
  • The Polaniec power plant in Poland that uses mainly agricultural by-products and wood residues. It has a 205MW capacity.

5- Geothermal Power as a Renewable Energy

geothermal energy renewables definition green
The Earth generates and stores geothermal energy. In other words, radioactive materials decaying inside the Earth are emitting energy. Electricity can be created using directly or indirectly this energy,  depending on the technology implemented. There are 3 main ways to use geothermal energy:

  • Generating electricity directly from the Earth’s heat;
  • Producing heat directly from hot water boiling on the planet’s surface;
  • Using pumps over the shallow ground to heat (and also to cool)

Topic 1: Traffic

Tell the names of means of transport you know

1. How do you go to school every day?

⟹ On foot

2. How long does it take you go to school from your house ?

⟹ About 2 - 3 minutes

3.How far is it take from your house to school ?

⟹ About 200m

4.How often do you go to school?

⟹ Six days a week

5.Have you ever traveled on other means of transport? What are they? Which one is the fastest?

⟹ I have traveled on other means of transport, they are bicycle, motorcycle, car,... The car is fastest

6. What will you do when you see the red light when traveling on the road?

⟹ I will stop and wait for the green light, then I will continue traveling

7. As a student, do you think you need to obey the traffic rules?

⟹ Yes, I do

8. Say some the traffic laws you have to obey

⟹ Road users shall keep to the right in their travel direction, move on the prescribed lane or road section and obey the road signal system.

Road users shall comply with instructions and indications of the road signal system.

Don't operating a motor vehicle without a driver license as prescribed.

9. Did you use to ride a bicycle when you were a child? How did you feel?

⟹ Yes, I did. I felt relaxed and free

10.Why are there many accidents on the road nowadays?

⟹ A distracted driver is a motorist that diverts his or her attention from the road, usually to talk on a cell phone, send a text message or eat food.

Many drivers ignore the speed limit and drive 10, 20 and sometimes 30 kmph over the limit. Speed kills, and traveling above the speed limit is an easy way to cause a car accident.

When you drink, you lose the ability to focus and function properly and its very dangerous when operating a vehicle. Driving under the influence of alcohol causes car accidents every day.

When you’re driving your car, red means stop and not doing so usually leads to car accidents. Drivers that run red lights, run the risk of causing wrongful death because they often cause side-impact collisions at high speeds. To avoid a car accident, look both ways for oncoming cars as you approach a green light.

Nowaday, traffic problem is the biggest problem that many people care about. In VN, I think the city where have the worst traffic is Ha noi.
The first problem is the traffic jam here. Why? In the rush hours of the day, there're too many people using the road. Last year, in 2013, many bridges was built so it happen less but in order to stop this, a kind of small car should be invented, people should go to works by buses instead of going by motorbikes...
The second one, as you know, the roads in VN is not as big and clean as the roads in the big countries. They're narrow, bumpy and some dirty so it’s really hard for the road users to drive safely. I think we should raise money to make the road in VN better and better.
But everyone knows that Vietnamese people are not respect and don’t follow the traffic rules. That’s the biggest reason for everything. They wear the helmet that not strong enough to keep they safe if the accident may happen, they ride too fast on the small roads… The traffic will never can be improve if they keep doing this.
At the end, I hope the traffic in VN will improve more.

The big city where I live and some other places have some traffic problems. One of the traffic problems is that there are too many traffic jams every day, so there are many traffic accidents too. Secondly, some people don’t obey the traffic laws. In addition, there are too many people using the road and too many vehicles, while the roads are narrow and bumpy. In short, there are some traffic problems in big cities. The street should be wider and everyone should obey the traffic rules strictly.

Topic 1: famous place ( https://lazi.vn/edu/exercise/write-about-the-famous-place-in-vietnam-you-have-visited-viet-ve-noi-noi-tieng-tai-viet-nam)

Halong Bay is located in the northeast of Vietnam and was awarded World Heritage Site status in 1994. It is the most popular destination for tourists to this part of Vietnam and is made up of approximately 3000 islands which rise out of the water and have a magical and mysterious aura about them. The islands are made up of grottos and beaches that have been created by the wind and the water that surrounds them although Vietnamese legend says that the islands were created by a mountain dwelling dragon. He is said to have carved out the landscape with his tail before plunging into the water which then filled the landscape only leaving the peaks of the rocks sticking out.
These ‘islands’ can be viewed from the relative comfort of a boat and sailing holidays for singles and groups are common, but Halong Bay also has other things to offer. There are many caves in the Bay which tourists come to explore, some of which have been illuminated, specifically for their benefit. As well as the caves, Cat Ba National Park offers great opportunities for hiking and seeing more of the stunning scenery.The way to get to Halong Bay is via Halong City, where you can organise a trip to Halong Bay if you did not do this prior to arriving in Vietnam. There is no doubt that the best way to see Halong Bay and its stunning landscape is from the water. Part of most organised tours of this region will include a boat trip through the bay and possibly even the chance to sleep on the boat. There are also many boating and sailing holidays for singles and groups available which will offer you the chance to sail through the bay in varying degrees of comfort and style.
Whatever time of year you choose to visit, it is likely to be affected by the weather. Visiting between February and April means the weather will be cool and potentially rainy, with fog also becoming a problem. However in the summer months, the area is prone to tropical storms so boat trips will be subject to change.
If you are visiting Vietnam, even for a short time, then Halong Bay has to be on your list of places to see. It has a unique and spectacular landscape and has to be seen to be truly appreciated.

Topic 2 : my favorite film ( http://rienorinzz-rinorin.blogspot.com/2009/06/my-favourite-movie.html)

Harry Potter is one of my favourite movie. This movie becoming my favourite since it has been held on theatre eight years ago. In my opinion, the story is totally awesome. Based on the best seller novel by JK.Rowling, this movie becomes real. I mean that the story is fiction, but it looks real when we see the movie. This movie story tells about Harry Potter, he is a wizard child since he was a baby, but his parents died by the hand of The Dark wizard,Voldemort. So, he had to struggled on his whole life. When he turned to a young boy, Hogwart school of wizard and wizardry sent him a message that he is a student of that school. In there, he learned everything about magic, and also he found his true friendship, Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley. They always helped Harry Potter in everything, whether is right or wrong. They do this all together, happiness or sorrow. Harry Potter also learned how to love his parents, friends, teachers, and everything. When Voldemort comes to kill Harry Potter, Harry against hard to be win. His bestfriend helped him until they comes to chaotic, but they still hold out. With his witchcraft power, his friends help, and their corageous, voldemort got lost.
From the story, i learn something about love, friendship, against everything bad, with our courageous and our heart and soul. That's why this movie becoming my favourite ever, because the story is touching, even it's just a fiction story. But it doesn't mind, because we get everything in this movie, the great adventure, and the philosophy of this movie, definitely Harry Potter is my favourite.
