I prefer other types of stories now because I’m older. I particularly enjoy reading action and adventure stories. It’s fun to believe that I’m the hero who fights the bad guys! And I’m also interested in real life stories because they make me think and imagine my reactions to many different situations in life. I think reading is a really interesting and exciting experience!

Question: His mother read fairy stories to him before bedtime.

I’m sorry I haven’t written sooner, but I’m busy helping my parents out on the farm.

It’s a great fun though I haven’t got used to getting up at six every morning to milk the cows. We often have the radio on while we’re doing it, so it’s not too bad. Then, once we have  had breakfast, we tend to spend the rest of the day outside, either in the fields or looking after the sheep.

Do you remember Coco, our oldest sheepdog? Well, she has just had puppies! If you are free in the summer, you could come and see them all and help with the harvest as well. Let me know if you can make it – we’d love to see you again.

Write  a letter responding to him. You should write at least 120 words. You are not allowed to include your name.

MANDI’S MAKING FRIENDS

My name’s Mandi. Three months ago, I went to disco where I met a boy called Tom. I guessed he was older than me, but I liked him and thought it didn’t matter. We danced a couple of times, then we chatted. He said he was 18, then asked how old I was. I told him I was 16. I thought that if I told him my real age, he wouldn’t want to know me, as I’m only 13.

After the dicso we arranged to meet the following weekend. The next Saturday we went for a burger and had a real laugh. Afterwards he walked me to my street and kissed me goodnight. Things went really well. We see each other a couple of times a week, but I’ve had to lie to my parents about where I’m going and who with. I’ve always got on with them, but I know if they found out how Tom was they’d stop me seeing him.

Now I really don’t know what to do. I can’t go on lying to my parents every time I go out, and Ton keeps asking he can’t come around to my house. I’m really worried and I need some advice.

Question: Why has Mandi written this?

A. to describe her boyfriend

B. to prove how clever she is

C. to explain a problem

D. to defend her actions
