B. Read the passage and answer the questions ( 2 points )

In Britain some families feel that learning at home is better than going to school. Home schooled children can choose when they want to learn. Does this sound more enjoyable than school?

Andrian is a science prodigy and he wants to start university by the age of fourteen. He finds school lessons easier than the ones he expects but making friends is more difficult. At home he can spend more time on his favourite subjects and is preparing to take many of his exams early. Does he ever take a break? “Yes”, he says “I don't study subjects I'm not interested in.”

Holly's parents weren't happy with the local school. So they made a decision to teach her at home. Her favorite is history and she often goes to museums to study. “I couldn't do that before”,

she says. “This is more interesting than school was”. Her parents are always happy to help her.

Andrian and Holly love learning at home, but some people think that studying at school is more useful because it trains you for adult life. It teaches you to be with people you don't like, but it can also help you to make friends. Are these things more important than lessons? What do you think?

Answer the questions:

1. Do people can learn at home or at school in Britain ?

……………………………………………………………………………

2. What does Andrian want to begin when he's 14 ?

………………………………………………………………………….

3. What is Holly's favourite subject ?

 …………………………………………………………………………………..

4. What do some British people think of studying at school compared with learning at home ?

Read the passage and choose the correct answer to each of the following questions. Children can benefit a lot by helping out at home. Doing chores helps children learn skills they can use in their adult lives, like preparing meals, cleaning the house or doing the garden. Being involved in chores also gives children experience of relationship skills like communicating clearly or working as a team. It also allows them to feel valued and competent. And sharing housework can also help families work better and reduce family stress. When children help out, chores get done quicker and parents have less to do. This frees up time for the family to do fun things together. As a result, family life is more pleasant when everyone shares the chores. It’s best to start by choosing chores that work for children’s ages and abilities. Getting children into the habit of doing housework can begin as young as the age of three, by asking them to put away their toys when they’ve done playing with them. Older children can help with setting the table, cleaning, cooking and so on. Teenagers can help with preparing or cooking dinner, babysitting their younger siblings or shopping for groceries. However, there are some children who are motivated to do chores for pocket money. It might not be a good idea. Instead of linking chores to pocket money, parents can praise children’s positive behaviours and give them small rewards like choosing the TV programmes or having a special meal. 31. What is the main idea of the first paragraph? A. Parents should teach children to do housework. B. There are many advantages of children sharing housework. C. There are lots of household chores that children can do. D. Children can learn many skills by doing housework. 32. Sharing housework helps reduce family stress by __________. Read the following passage and mark the letter A, B, C, or D to indicate the answer to each of the question.

Educating children at home as an alternative to formal education is an option chosen by families in many parts of the world. The homeschooling movement is popular in the United States, where close to one million Children are educated at home. In Canada, 1 percent of school-age children are homeschooled, and the idea also enjoys growing popularity in Australia, where 20,000 families homeschool their children. The movement is not limited to these countries. Homeschooling families can be found all over the world, from Japan to Taiwan to Argentina to South Africa.

Homeschooling is not a novel idea. In fact, the idea of sending children to spend most of their day away from home at a formal school is a relatively new custom. In the United States, for example, it was not until the latter part of the nineteenth century that state governments began making school attendance compulsory. Before that, the concept of a formal education was not so widespread. Children learned the skills they would need for adult life at home from tutors or their parents, through formal instruction or by working side by side with the adults of the family.

In the modern developed world, where the vast majority of children attend school, families choose homeschooling for a variety of reasons. For people who live in remote areas, such as the Australian outback or the Alaskan Wilderness, homeschooling may be their only option. Children who have exceptional talents in the arts or other areas may be homeschooled so that they have more time to devote to their special interests. Much of the homeschooling movement is made up of families who, for various reasons, are dissatisfied with the schools available to them. They may have a differing educational philosophy, they may be concerned about the safety of the school environment, or they may feel that the local schools cannot adequately address their children's educational needs. Although most families continue to choose a traditional classroom education for their children, homeschooling as an alternative educational option is becoming more popular.

It can be inferred from the last passage that _________.

A. parents’ satisfaction plays an important role in the number of students attending class.

B. teachers’ qualifications may be one of the reasons why students come to school.

C. not many children in modern society are allowed to be educated at home

D. some schools are unable to provide a safe environment for their students.

More often, parents have to pay for child care help. The help may be a babysister or a day-care center. The problem with this kind of help is the high cost. It is possible only for couples with jobs that pay well. Parents may get another kind of help from the companies they work for. Many companies now let people with children work part-time. That way, parents can spend more time with their children. Some husbands may even stop working for a while to stay with the children. For these men there is a new word: They are called "househusband". In the United States more ans more men are becoming househusband every year.
These changes in the home mean changes in the family. Fathers can learn to understand their children better, and the children can get to know their fathers better. Husbands and wives may also find changes in their marriage. They, too, may have a better understanding of each other

These days, however, more and more women work outside the home. They cannot stay with the children all day. They, too, come home tired in the evening. They do not want to spend the evening cooking dinner and cleaning up. They do not have time to clean the house and do the laundry. So who is going to do the housework now? Who is going to take care of the children?

Many families solve the problem of housework by sharing it. In these families, the husband and wife agree to do different jobs around the house, or they take turns doing each job. For example, the husband always cooks dinner and the wife always does the laundry. Or the wife cooks dinner on some nights and the husband cooks dinner on other nights.

Then there is the question of the children. In the past, many families got help with child care from grandparents. Now families usually do not live near their relatives. The grandparents are often too far away to help in a regular way. More often, parents have to pay for child care help. Ihe help may be a babysitter or a day-care center. The problem with this kind of help is the high cost. It is possible only for couples with jobs that pay well.

Parents may get another kind of help form the companies they work for. Many companies now let people with children work part-time. That way, parents can spend more time with their children. Some husbands may even stop working for a while to stay with the children. For these men there is a new word: they are called “househusbands”. In the USA more and more men are becoming househusbands every year.

These changes in the home mean changes in the family. Fathers can learn to understand their children better, and the children can get to know their fathers better. Husbands and wives may also find changes in their marriage. They, too, may have a better understanding of each other.
The changes in the American home mentioned in this passage may __________.

A. help families

B. not happen

C. cause problems for a marriage

D. not change the children at all

Which of the following could be the main idea of the passage?

A. A new form of school: Homeschooling.

B. Homeschool option: a common form of education all over the world.

C. The reasons why children should be educated at home.

D. The origin of Homeschooling.
