- Động từ tường thuật “asked” chia thì quá khứ nên lời nói trong ngoặc kép phải áp dụng quy tắc lùi thì:
you => she
Thì hiện tại tiếp diễn: S + is/am/are + V-ing => Thì quá khứ tiếp diễn: S + was/were + V-ing
- Đối với dạng câu hỏi có từ để hỏi "wh-questions":
S + động từ tường thuật + (O) + wh- questions + clause
=> He asked her where she was going.

- Động từ tường thuật “asked” chia thì quá khứ nên lời nói trong ngoặc kép phải áp dụng quy tắc lùi thì:
+ you => he, my => his
+ Thì hiện tại hoàn thành: S + have/has + Ved/V3 => Thì quá khứ hoàn thành: S + had + Ved/V3
- Dùng "if/ whether" khi chuyển sang câu tường thuật với dạng câu hỏi "Yes-No question"
=> Thomas asked Jean if he had seen his gloves.
Tạm dịch: Thomas đã hỏi Jean xem liệu Jean có nhìn thấy găng tay của anh ấy hay không.
