Dear Timmy:

You know, it’s funny, for as long as we’ve known each other, we’ve spent very little time actually around each other. But I really wanted to tell you how much the time we’ve spent together has meant to me, and I also wanted to say thank you.

We don’t really think about it much, but the words “thank you” can accomplish so much and can convey more than one could possibly imagine.

Thank you for being one of the first people to be nice to me in elementary school. I think you saw the fear in my eyes when I showed up at a new school where most of you had kind of grown up around each other. You hung out with me on the playground and would always invite me to play games with you at recess.

Thank you for always being the same back then, no matter what. I sadly hit my popular peak in fifth grade, and even though we were in the same class we didn’t talk so much. That was my fault and I’m sorry.

While I was feeling the joy of being popular, you were being labeled as troublemaker — and worse, a lost cause — by the very adults that were supposed to be guiding us, teaching us, nurturing us. No child should be made to feel that way.

3. As for me I spent a week in Turkey. I took the plane in Paris
and flew for three and a half hours to Izmir. There a woman
was waiting for us to drive us by bus to Kusadasi (pronounced
kouchadaseu). She is a French woman who married a Turkish
man five years ago. She is from Lievin, in the North of France.
She confessed that her husband followed her to France but
he didn't get used to the weather. It was a bit too wet and
too cold for him. So, they went back to Turkey. He then
became the manager of a hotel (not the one we went to) and
she started working for a holidays group at the hotel where
we went.
We arrived in the afternoon at the hotel which is based very
close to the sea. How wonderful it is to have meals almost on
the beach, listening to the waves and looking at the sun
downing in the evening. We could have a glass, then go to the
beach and as soon as we were thirsty come back to the bar
and have another glass before swimming a little. It was very
comfortable. I loved it.
Concerning the site, it was very beautiful. The beach was in
front of us and on the right side, we had a view on the
mountains. We even took a boat to some little beaches on the
edge of these mountains. The water was like a warm bath.
And you'd say, what about Turkish people? They are really
nice. They don't speak a lot of French, but if you can speak English, I assure you you can spend good time with them. I
had the feeling that they didn't know what to do to please us.
I have never met so nice people. I advise you to go there,
really, you'll come back with so many souvenirs in your minds.

Smart phones seem indispensable in today's life. People use it to call online, play games, study, ... People use it for an average of 12 hours per day, a remarkable number. Maybe the future, the smart phone, can change everything. In the future, for example, new smartphones will be born, eliminating the old ones. And sure, in the future, you will see the smartphone anywhere. Because it is very useful, convenient and very luxurious. Everyone, kids or adults, wants to use it, get it. But people don't like it, because they are familiar with the old telephones and see their descendants are too engaged in it, refusing to do somethings.#####bàiTK

What Do You Think?

We have all had bad experiences with restaurants, stores, or hotels. Maybe you have gone to a restaurant that served terrible food. Perhaps you have gone to a store that had high prices or bad service. Or maybe you have booked a hotel and found out later that the room was nothing like the advertisement.

These days, we have a better chance of preventing these unpleasant surprises. We can do this by using apps. “App” is short for “application”. An app is a computer programme on a smartphone. You can use apps to do almost anything. Apps can help you play games, get directions, talk to friends, and so on.

If f you want to find information about a store or a hotel, you can use a review app. Review apps help us evaluate services and products before we hand over our money. The idea is very simple. After you go to a restaurant or stay in a hotel, you can post a review with one of your apps. You can say anything you want. If you like a hotel you stayed in, you can tell people that it was wonderful. If you think that the food in a certain restaurant was bad, then you tell people not to eat there. Other people can use their apps to read your reviews.

Plenty of people prefer not to use these review apps. Many of these people prefer to go out and decide for themselves whether or not a service is good. However, review apps are getting more and more popular every day. Some apps are for specific services. For example, Tripadvisor focuses on travel, and Goodreads focuses on books. There are also other, larger apps that provide information for just about every service that you can think of.

According to the passage, why do some people prefer NOT to use review apps?

A. They don't trust review apps.

B. They don't know how to use review apps.

C. They think review app are too hard.

D. They prefer to make their own decisions.

Read the following passage and mark the letter A, B, C, or D on your answer sheet to indicate the correct answer to each of the questions from 43 to 50.

MEMORY

"Memorize these words". "Learn this spelling rule". "Don't forget about the quiz tomorrow".

You remember things every day, but how do you do it?

When you want to call a store or an office that you don't call often, you look in the telephone book for the number. You dial the number, and then you forget it! You use your short-term memory to remember the number. Your short-term memory lasts about 30 seconds, or half a minute. However, you don't need to look in the telephone book for your best friend’s number because you already know it. This information is in your long-term memory. Your long-term memory has everything that you remember through the years.

Why do you forget things sometimes? Is there a reason? Yes, there are several. The major reason for forgetting something is that you did not learn it well in the beginning. For example, you meet some new people, and right away, you forget their names. You hear the names but you do not learn them, so you forget them.

You can help yourself remember better. Here are some ideas:

1. Move information from your short-term memory to your long-term memory. You can do this if you practice the new information. Say it to yourself out loud. Think about it.

2. After you learn something, study it again and again. Learn it more than you need to. This process is called overlearning. For example, when you learn new words, practice using them in sentences. Don't try to memorize words from a list only.

3. Make sure that you understand new information. It is very difficult to remember something that you don't understand. Ask questions when you learn something new to be certain that you understand.

4. Do not listen to music or watch TV when you study. You will remember better if you concentrate on one thing at a time.

5. Try to connect new information with something that you already know. For example, when you learn the name of a new kind of food, think of a similar kind of food that you already know.

6. Divide new information into several parts (about five or six). Learn one part at time and stop for few minutes. Don't sit down and try to learn a very large amount of new information all at once.

7. Try to make a picture in your mind. For example, if you hear or see a new word, make a picture of how it looks to you in your mind. This “mental” picture will help you remember that word the next time you see or hear it.

8. Think of word clues to help you remember information. One very helpful kind of word clue is an acronym. An acronym is a word formed from the first letter of a group of words. For example, many American schoolchildren learn the names of the Great Lakes in the North America by remembering the word homes. Homes is an acronym that comes from the names of the Great Lakes: Huron, Ontario, Michigan, Erie, Superior.

9. Relax when you study! Try to enjoy yourself. You are learning new things every minute. You will remember better if you are happy and relaxed.

The following things should help you remember things better when you study, EXCEPT______.

A. asking questions when you don’t understand something

B. connecting new information with something you already know

C. trying to learn a large amount of new information all at once

D. overlearning them
