Air pollution is a cause of ill-health in human beings. In a lot of countries there are laws limiting the amount of smoke which factories can produce. Although there isn’t enuogh information on the effects of smoke in the atmosphere, doctors have proved that air pollution causes lung diseases.

The gases from the exhausts of cars have also increased air pollution in most cities. The lead in petrol produces a poisonous gas which often collects in busy streets surrounded by high buildings. Children who live in areas where there is a lot of lead in the atmosphere can’t think as quickly as other children and are clumsy when they use their hands.

There are other long-term effects of pollution. If the gases in the atmosphere continue to increase , the earth’s climate may become warmer. A lot of the ice near the Poles ma melt and may cause serious floods.

Water Pollution is the contamination of water bodies. It occurs as a result of introduction of pollutants in water. Water is life. Still, we contribute in polluting the water bodies in several ways.

Water Pollution is mainly caused as a result of improper discharge of household and industrial chemicals wastes into the water bodies.

These dangerous chemicals (in the form of solid, liquid or gases) mixes with water and make it unsafe for living bodies. Water pollutants cause harm to human-beings, animals, trees and other constituents of environment.

B. You win a vacation for two people and can choose from the three places below. In pairs, discuss the places and choose one. Present and explain your decision to the class.

The temples at My Son Sanctuary in central Việt Nam were constructed between the 4th and the 14th century. My Son is a must-visit for those who love history.

Adventure sports, New Zealand

Tourists come to New Zealand because it has an amazing countryside. It's perfect for canoeing in the rivers and bungee jumping off bridges.

Bahia beaches, Brazil

The coast of Bahia is 685 miles long, so you can always find a quiet beach during the day. Then you can go to a beach bar at night and dance until the morning.

A: My Son Sanctuary is good … (Thánh địa Mỹ Sơn thì tuyệt vời …)

B: I prefer a vacation at the beach. (Tôi thích kỳ nghỉ ở bãi biển hơn.)

A: My Son Sanctuary is good. Because it is in central Việt Nam, we can go there conveniently.

B: But I don’t like historical places so much. I prefer a vacation at the beach. What do you think about Bahia beaches?

A: They are great, but they are in Brazil. It is too far from Vietnam. So, how about New Zealand? It has amazing countryside, and we can canoe on the rivers. I think it’ll be great.

B: Yeah. I like it, too. Let’s choose Adventure sports in New Zealand.

Tạm dịch:

A: Thánh địa Mỹ Sơn thì hay đấy.

A: Chúng rất tuyệt, nhưng chúng ở mãi Brazil. Nó quá xa Việt Nam. Vậy còn New Zealand thì sao? Nó có vùng nông thôn tuyệt vời, và chúng ta có thể chèo thuyền trên sông. Tớ nghĩ nó sẽ rất tuyệt.

B: Ừ. Tôi cũng thích nó. Vậy hãy chọn các môn thể thao mạo hiểm ở New Zealand đi.

***

I choose New Zealand because it has amazing countryside, and I can canoe on the rivers. I think it’ll be great. Moreover, flying to New Zealand is faster than flying to Brazil. I don’t like historical places so much, so I didn’t choose My Son Sanctuary.
