Dear Alice, I feel so great when receiving your letter. I know a little bit about Easter. However, I have never joined a real one. I live in Bac Ninh, a province in the north of Vietnam. There are many festivals in my hometown. Here, the festivals don’t have any decorated eggs but they are really exciting. Festivals are often held from the middle of January to the end of February in the Lunar Year. Each festival usually lasts for 3 days. The second day is the main day of the festival. There are some traditional rituals. On the first day of the festival, the elders begin the ritual to open the festival. The sound of gongs, drums resounds throughout the region. On the second day, people who have been selected to participate in the procession have to present early in the morning. The procession starts from the place of God of our village to Nghe area. At the end of the last day, the elders make some rituals to end this festival. Besides traditional rituals, there are many folk games and activities which are often held on the main day of the festival. The first game is often catching ducks in a pond. The organizers will put a duck down the pond each time and the participants will jump in the pond and try to catch it first. This festival, my father participated in catching ducks. He caught two out of five ducks. How amazing it was! The second game is wrestling. I was not really keen on it; therefore, I joined the pot breaking game. I couldn't break any pots, but I was still so happy. The most exciting activity is ''Quan Ho'' singing. All members in my family is crazy about it.Besides those activities, the festival also includes other games such as swinging, blind man's bluff, and playing human chess. I think that traditional festivals are extremely important. They preserve local customs and many traditional activities. If you have chance to visit Vietnam in this season of festivals, I am sure that you will like them. Write me soon. Yours sincerely, An Khanh

1,3. In Vietnam there are many festivals. Most festivals are wonderful and interesting. Here I would like to tell a few festivals that I think are the most important. The first is the Hung Temple Festival - the death anniversary of King Hung Vuong. This is a traditional festival of Vietnamese people commemorating Hung Vuong's country building. A traditional ceremony is held annually on the 10th day of the third month of the lunar calendar at Hung Temple. Next is the Perfume pagoda festival. Perfume Pagoda is a famous landmark. Unlike any pagoda, Huong pagoda makes a collection of many caves and pagodas in a combined structure that is both natural and artificial. The attraction of Huong Son is not only on the outside but also on the inside. That is the deep beauty rich in folk philosophy of the cave. Therefore, the Huong pagoda festival is one of the most interesting in Vietnam. Thirdly, the Bai Dinh pagoda festival is a pilgrimage festival to the ancient capital of Hoa Lu in Ninh Binh province. The annual Bai Dinh festival always attracts many tourists to participate. Tourists come here not only to worship and offer incense to Buddha but also to travel to spring, to admire the magnificent scenery, to mingle with the vast and pure sacred space in the Buddha realm. In Loc Vuong Ward, Nam Dinh City, Nam Dinh Province, Tran Temple Festival is held from 15th to 20th of the eighth lunar month every year in Loc Vuong ward, Nam Dinh city, Nam Dinh province to gratitude for the work of 14 Tran kings. Since 2000, Nam Dinh has held the Opening Ceremony of Tran Temple at dawn on January 15. At first, the custom of opening the seal was confined to the village of Tuc Mac, gradually becoming a great festival. The above are just some of the wonderful festivals in Vietnam, I like the most, the ceremony to Hung because it shows the gratitude of our people to the Hung kings for making the country.

Lunar New Year festival, also known as Tet, is the biggest traditional festival in my country, Viet Nam. Tet is usually from the end of January to early February. Before Tet, Vietnamese people prepare many things, we always want everything to be perfect for the new year. In particularly, we clean the house and decorate it with flowers and trees such as kumquat tree, peach blossom,… In addition, a huge amount of food will be bought before Tet for making traditional dishes like Banh Chung, Banh Tet, Gio cha,… During Tet, we visit our relatives and give them wishes. Traditionally, elders will give lucky money to children and the oldest people in the family. However, nowadays, we can give it to anyone including friends, parents, neighbors. Besides, Vietnamese usually go to pagodas or temples to pray for health, wealth, success. All in all, Tet is all about going back to origins, being good to others, enjoying the precious moment, and wishing for the best to come.

Festivals in Vietnam offer visitors the best opportunity for getting up close and personal with the myths, customs and fun-loving spirit of this proud nation. Despite undergoing modern developments, Vietnam is still a predominantly traditional country, with thousands of pagodas and shrines dedicated to Buddha as well as various deities and iconic figures.   There are also plenty of cultural events that are only celebrated during certain times of the year (or years), so you’ll never know when one decides to pop up during your travels. We’ve compiled a list of the best festivals in Vietnam, and while they’re celebrated just about anywhere in the country, we’ve included some suggestions on the best places so that you can fully experience these one-of-a-kind events during your holiday.
