Just before the last day of school I give out presents to my teacher and a few of my friends. I always hope they like what I get them. When school is over and the Christmas holiday begins I usually go out with my parents. During the day I go to Sai Gon; maybe to a river or sometimes we just go on a ride round. Almost everyday we go out for lunch.

I always ask my parents not to tell me what they get me. Of course I no longer believe I Santa Claus. They usually buy a present for my brother to give to me, as my brother is five. What I do is have my supper and then we each go to our beds. My favourite part of the holiday is Christmas day.

Last year, I went down very early but my mother always tells me to wait for the rest of the family. When they come down I open my presents and every year I like what every one gets me. At night we have a roast dinner usually chicken. During January and February My brother and I get another present from my uncle from Ha Noi it's usually clothing or sometimes jewellery.

Two years ago I went to church on Christmas Eve and I won all the figures for the crib; there were all sorts of things. It was like the whole town of Bethlehem. Last year and this year, my father built a mountain that is about a metre wide. It starts small with bits and pieces and from there we build up. I live with my mother, father, brother and uncle and every year we have a nice Christmas. We are all happy and we get lots of gifts. My friends An and Kim always get me a nice present and I always give them one too.

Last year I gave Dr Dong my teacher some figures to do a crib in class. Every year I give Christmas cards to all my friends. I love to decorate my house and last year I made a holly wreath out of a clothes hanger, some tinsel with a few decorations too.

Tet - shortened form of Tet Nguyen Dan ( Vietnamese Lunar New Year or Tet Holiday) is one of the most important and biggest festivals in Vietnam. Following the Vietnamese lunar calendar, this special holiday - Tet starts at the beginning of a new year. On the Gregorian calendar, this holiday usually has the date falling between January 21st and February 19th

People find it easy to have some mistaken views that the Vietnamese are celebrating the Chinese Lunar New Year, perhaps because of its similarity since both China and Vietnam use the lunar calendar. However, the Vietnamese have many different traditions and customs from China. Another scholar Le Quy Don also wrote in "Kien Van Tieu Luc" which is a journal that includes miscellaneous stories of Vietnam about history, tradition, culture, geography, procedures, and people from 1762 to 1hat during the Ly dynasty, a great variety of different important rituals (e.g., setting up "Dan Phong Van" to pray for the rains, building "Dan Xa Tac - communal houses" to crave for a year of abundant harvests) were made while during Hong Duc period (1442 - 1497), Tet Nguyen Dan is the most important holiday of the year and all the mandarins had to gather to celebrate it with royal families.

My shool leuleu

The school which I am attending is one of the oldest high schools in my city.

It is located in a quiet area not far from the city center. It consists of four blocks of
buidings, which are surrounded by a large yard of shady tall trees. In this academic year,
there are 30 classes with more than 1200 students in my school. They study hard and obey
the school regualations seriously. Thanks to the teachers' devotion and the students'
efforts, my school has achieved good results in every field. The Communist Youth Union of
the school also organizes extracurricular activities such as camping, sport and music competitions and community work.

I have studied in this school for 3 years. I love my school very much because it has given
me good memories of my time.

Lunar New Year festival, also known as Tet, is the biggest traditional festival in my country, Viet Nam. Tet is usually from the end of January to early February. Before Tet, Vietnamese people prepare many things, we always want everything to be perfect for the new year. In particularly, we clean the house and decorate it with flowers and trees such as kumquat tree, peach blossom,… In addition, a huge amount of food will be bought before Tet for making traditional dishes like Banh Chung, Banh Tet, Gio cha,… During Tet, we visit our relatives and give them wishes. Traditionally, elders will give lucky money to children and the oldest people in the family. However, nowadays, we can give it to anyone including friends, parents, neighbors. Besides, Vietnamese usually go to pagodas or temples to pray for health, wealth, success. All in all, Tet is all about going back to origins, being good to others, enjoying the precious moment, and wishing for the best to come.
